Re: Marinas in lower Chesapeake

Olverson's Lodge Creek Marina. Very friendly, nice pool, multiple loaner cars, inexpensive slips, both covered and un-covered. Located on south side of the Potomac about 12 nm up from the mouth of...

Re: Florida boat registration in Maryland

Maryland is aggressive in collecting their "excise" tax and they hire contractors (bounty hunters) to walk the docks in the winter looking for boats w/out Maryland stickers or MD registration...

Re: Manual vs electric fuel lifting pump

You don't "replace" the manual lift pump with an electric pump, you simply add an electric pump in the fuel line before the manual pump (and before any fuel filters). The electric pump will pump...

Re: Delaware Bay in a moderate southerly

I've done Chesapeake Bay to NYC a number of times via the C&D/Delaware Bay. I agree with Redneckrob and others, you're setting yourself up for misery at best & likely a lot worse. If you're bound...

Re: Better to sell in Grenada or Florida?

I sold our 42 foot ketch lying in St. Croix. The buyer sent his wife down by herself to see the boat - based on the pictures I had sent him he was convinced it was the boat he wanted. His wife came...

Re: Contest Compass Steel Boat

Take a look at a satellite compass like the Garmin. Not a whole lot more $$$ than a compensated magnetic compass and you can interface it to feed radar, chart plotter, etc.

Re: Repowering. Where on the US east coast?

I repowered MOJO at Tiffany Yachts, Burgess, VA., off the Chesapeake Bay up the river from Reedville. Excellent work ethic and skill level by all personnel. This is a family owned and operated boat...

Re: Dish Feuds With SpaceX Over Starlink Dishes Being Used on Moving Boats, Cars

It's not "a satellite signal being received" that's the concern... Starlink is a two way broadcast, both receiving and transmitting. There are no rules on what you can receive... it's the uplink...

Re: Onan 6kw shutting down

Same thing happened to my Kohler. It was the throttle hold (run) solenoid failing to be held closed as others have opined.

Essentially all of your sensors are wired in series with the throttle...

Re: VA "Good Value" marina reccomendations for a cat?

Look at Olverson's Lodge Creek Marina on the Yeocomico, about 2 hrs up the Potomac from the Chesapeake Bay. We kept MOJO there for 4 years and were very happy with the marina. You'll have to get a...

Re: Zinc replacement on steel boat

The bolts should work fine. They're there to keep you from having to get a welder to weld on new zincs every time you need to change them. All that's required is a good, sound electrical connection...

Re: Through-hull or engine water supply for watermaker?

I tee'd off the engine cooling water. Eliminated the need for a boost pump (and another thru-hull). Made thousands of gallons of water with no problems.

Re: Going electric - change my mind

Why not just "do it"? You know your boat and how you use it and you've already determined that electric propulsion will meet you needs. It would be pretty cool, in my mind, to be able to motor out...

Re: 2 forms of ID & the latest rules.

Re: Bahamas Rules For Firearms On Board

It's been a few years ago, but I routinely brought firearms into the Bahamas when we cruised there. Customs had a form to fill out where you listed the gun manufacturer, model number, serial number...

Re: Bahamas Rules For Firearms On Board

Interesting choice of caliber limit. This means an AK-47 can legally be brought into the country with 250 rounds of ammo whereas a 9mm handgun or carbine would be illegal.

Re: Crew member needed... Deltaville, VA to Bahamas in November

General rule of thumb is if conditions get to the point where you think you need to reef, you've waited too long. Best to reef early as soon as the boat feels like it's just starting to get over...

Re: How much LPG (Propane/Butane) do cruising yachts carry?

Forgot to say, we had a separate 10lb tank for the BBQ grill. It seemed to last about 3 months also using it maybe 2 times per week. If it ran out, I could hook up the 2nd 20lb tank for temporary...

Re: How much LPG (Propane/Butane) do cruising yachts carry?

We lived aboard full time in the Caribbean for 6 years. Had 2 20lb tanks (~9kg ea) and consistently found that one tank would last 3 months. That meant that when the first tank ran out, we had 3...

Re: What is this filter??

Baja fuel filter. Typically has three screens it of varying filter size. We took the finest mesh out because it slows down fueling too much. The other two do a very good job of filtering diesel...

Re: Products to fill in rust pits

I've used Corroseal extensively and it has worked great on MOJO. Use a dremel to grind out the pit so that there is no loose rust. It does not need to be bright shiny steel. In fact, it's actually...

Re: Harness or snubber on nylon rode?

On MOJO (80,000 lbs) we use a wire aircraft cable for an anchor rode. I found that an icicle hitch was the only hitch that would secure my 1/2" nylon snubber to the wire rope 100% of the time. It's...
