Re: Where can I sail a foiling yacht?

Look for a used WASZP.

They are about $10k+, but the bonus is that you can foil until you get bored and then resell it.

I bet getting a ride on the real thing would cost a LOT more...

Re: How to get your SS doing liveaboard

Open an LLC in Delaware, Wyoming, Florida, or some such tax haven.

There are lots of companies prepared to make this happen for you.

There is an business complex in Wilmington...

Re: How to stop clothes from smelling sour?

Three ideas for you:

#1: Ventilation, Ventilation Ventilation..
We removed our clothes locker doors and cut the opening larger- leaving approximately 2-3" of plywood left- then stapled...

Re: Hello from coastal Georgia (USA). Looking for boat recommendations.

I would learn to read and understand some of the information provided by sailboat data.

For example "Sail Area to Displacement Ratio" is a very common metric used to help understand sailing...

Re: Hello from coastal Georgia (USA). Looking for boat recommendations.

Mudwater, just my 2-cents, but I would highly recommend not giving such a rare event as once or twice a year much stock in the boat you choose.

At one time or another we have had onboard big...

Re: Hello from coastal Georgia (USA). Looking for boat recommendations.

Daysail 8 in the mid-30 range? Seems like a big ask based on my experience in that range.

Might have better luck going Multi-Hull, but then the airdraft is a problem again I'm sure.

Ketch rig...

Re: Atricles. What types of articles do you like to see in magazines?

I completely agree.
I think people that make the social media thing actually work are basically work alcoholics. They literally LIVE the social media lifestyle and based on some mild proximity to a...

Re: Atricles. What types of articles do you like to see in magazines?

I can certainly agree with that. The St. Pete Municipal Marina is over 900 boats and we lived there for 18-20 months on our first boat: the only boats we ever saw leave the dock on the regular were...

Re: Saga of the Sunken Sailboat - from Start to Sunk

I'm with your original statement. No apologies from me about it.

I counted NINE (9) either sunk or washed ashore derelicts just in Gulfport FL bay the last time I was in that area... And people...

Re: Painting Bare Al with epoxy paint

On our aluminum boat, I would scuff the aluminum fresh, the apply "Bonderite" acid wash per the insructions, then Chemeon TCP-HF alodine converter (prefer the coloring version).. Then you have about...

Re: Coppercoat, or not?

We did a "home brew" coppercoat on our old BenBow: which has a huge full keel.
By FAR and above the removal of the old bottom paint was the most challenging part.

We used sanders and Cubitron...

Re: 50 Year old boats can they be giving away in Mexico or somewhere.

I have seen some threads discussing the insurance issue, specifically a young person who was living aboard struggling to get insurance on an older vessel.

To me: that is so sad.. nearly...

Re: Finding deck leaks

I have to say- I kind of like the leaf-blower idea! Never heard that one. Seems like a great idea to me and less destructive.

Be aware the boat likely has a plywood deck core: so water...

Re: Rigging (kinda) WOES

Its likely your headstay is fine as long as its not obviously very saggy. A trained rigger could come give you a rig inspection: which is good to have anyway on a boat that is new to you. This would...

Re: Atricles. What types of articles do you like to see in magazines?

To me, the entire beginning stages of cruising is over played. There are HUGE books and more huge books about picking a boat, that basics of its use and maintenance and weather.. Move on, dont...

I completely agree with the above.

My one thought is that each company chooses to specify certain aspects of the construction details and the overall design of the hull and the shape of the boat....

Re: Cutting Through Precious Wood for Fuel Tank Removal....HELP!!

Just another idea here, but you could have the old tank lined in fiberglass.

I have seen this done to a couple tanks, though I have only inspected one in person- the owner helped in the process...

Generally you dont have to wipe anything up- its a pretty generous opening.

Re: Compost head use?

We used a composter for about 4 to 5 years on our second boat and we ended up changing how we used it after we got tired of cleaning it/repacking it.

We removed the lower bucket handle...

Re: Lagoon Confidence Lacking

Well, this is really a very personal mental hurdle. But I might offer a couple ideas to use as tools in the journey.

First and foremost, it might be easy to forget that there was a time you...
