Re: Solar / battery refit First 38

Does anyone have any pointers on good value LFP batteries that can be shipped to Europe ?

If I was in the US, I would get some SOK (out of stock) or AmpereTime (they don't deliver in France).

Re: Solar / battery refit First 38

Cheers for the info.
So 4 x 100w of same panels in parallel, 40A MPPT controller should be alright for around 6A per panel and install fuses and breakers per the controller requirements of the...

Re: Solar / battery refit First 38

Sorry, this would be my first time putting such a system together as I have been relying on the existing system on my boat since I bought it in 2018.
Therefore this might seem like a stupid question...

Re: Solar / battery refit First 38

Sorry, I just realised the answer to question n°6 was available in a thread on the first page.
Fuses within 7" of the batteries as it is the unlimited power source.

Solar / battery refit First 38

Hello everyone.

As I am making the leap from week-end sailing to living aboard for the next 5-10 years, I'm contemplating a full refit of the solar and batteries on my Beneteau First 38.

It...

Re: Gettin real, First offer on a boat.

For the aft cabins liner, Am I right to assume I am looking at mild expenses but a lot of elbow grease ?
I will have about 4-5 months this year to work on the boat full time, so elbow grease and...

Re: Gettin real, First offer on a boat.

Not sure, I lifted all the panels in the saloon, they replaced 9 bolts and left 3 of the old ones in place. I gotta say tho, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to access the bilges all...

Gettin real, First offer on a boat.

Hello everybody !

After 4 years of lurking/reading the forum, posting here and there, and 4 years of saving 80% of my income, I have finally put an offer on a boat.
Offer has been accepted,...

Re: How Old Are We?

Seems like I'm the first 20-30 answering the poll. Closer to 30 than 20 thought.
We are around somehow.

Re: older really strong boat or newer not-so-strong

France is really close to the opposite of the world of Tasmania. (it falls a couple thousands of kilometers west in the Atlantic)
I regularly see Jeanneaus' and Beneteaus' here in Hobart harbor and...

Re: Listen Lurkers

I really hope that's true !
All these anchorages, reefs, islands, beaches will be just for me then.

Re: Listen Lurkers

I have no valuable sailing knowledge to bring to the table yet, therefore I try to limit myself to questions and topics where I have a bit of expertise such as diving.

I've tried to resist the...

Re: US property

Hell why not ?
The bigger the imaginary pile of money is, the bigger the very real commissions are.
The extremely low risk of going to jail compared to any other crime is the icing on the cake.

Re: US property

The correction started 12 months ago and is slowly creeping up, especially in Sydney and Melbourne.
The current market down under is the result of several years of loose credit regulations and...

Re: Cruising Sailboats: a Dying Breed?

Sailing Kittiwake has been sailing the med in high season last year and did a video report. They are on the frugal side of things I believe and pretty close to what I want to do.

They ended up...

Re: Cruising Sailboats: a Dying Breed?

That sounds pretty damn good.
Any idea where to go now to get the feeling of semi-exploration you are describing ?
Some parts of PNG/Papua ? Vanuatu ?

Re: big dreams, fairly modest budget, a common theme

Yeah too bad.

I could have learnt a lot here.

Re: Ice Age on the Way!

Another way to look at it, using the smoothed out 13-month average :

The 1980s had one year above base line
The 1990s had around 4 years above base line
The 2000s had approximately 8 years above...

Re: Ice Age on the Way!

I'm not a math genius, but isn't this graph's trend obviously up ?
Not that there's hard proof that it's related to human activity, but I struggle to see an actual cooling from that data.

I was arguing with a friend about this.

We were talking about the "La Vagabonde" video rant about Cruise Boats.
I was pointing out that, while it is very likely that cruise boats pollute more per...

Re: Cruising Sailboats: a Dying Breed?

This might not be an accurate representation but, in my circles in both France and Australia, there are 4 scenarios that I encountered among friends in their 20's who expressed interest in cruising :...
