Re: Help identifying electrical gizmo from 1990 yacht

The OP says the device is connected to the alternator.”

And I missed that important fact. After taking a closer look at the pic, I was barking up the wrong tree. If it is indeed an old AC alt....

Re: Help identifying electrical gizmo from 1990 yacht

Re: Good sound system on a boat

I’ve been happy with the Fusion MS-UD755 head unit and Fusion subwoofer along with a pair of 6” Bostons and a pair of ADS bookshelf speakers in the saloon. The cockpit has small 4” speakers that are...

Re: Murphy at work on my prop

The maxprop on my boat was making noise so I put on the dive gear for a look. It was about ready to fall off! Without a travel lift nearby, the only option was to remove it while in the water. Not...

Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app

I’m using a b&g vulcan 9 plotter at the nav station and an ipad pro at the helm using the Link app to mirror the plotter. It does give you control of plotter functions but there is a delay which is...

Re: Regalvanization of anchor chain

The chain on my boat had a lot of surface rust so I took it to Emerald Galvanizing in Seattle. They have a centrifuge and did a fine job. The location won’t work for you but the info on the website...

Re: Raw water pump on genset not pumping.

Similar 60

What genset make/model? Some genders have an anode on the head that can get clogged with salt sludge. Not sure that’s what is causing your genset cooling system not to flow using the...

Re: Hanging zinc what am I missing

After installing a flexible shaft coupling, I thought there was no need for a zinc over the side wired to the shaft. I left it isolated from the transmission as my boat is not a bonded system. What...

Re: Folding prop won't work, need feathering

You might consider Maxprop. Not cheap to buy or refurbish, but it works very well on my mono hull. I have the classic from years ago, which is nearly impossible to install/remove in the water. I...

Re: Most sustainable electrical setup

As others have mentioned, forget the 3 way fridge. Consider cold plate or portable Engle type fridge/freezer. Lifepo4 might be a good option for you, along with a high output alternator, solar,...

Re: Raw water strainer - a near boat-sinker

If your boat has room to install strainers above the waterline, consider it. This eliminates the chance of flooding your boat from a failed strainer. Also, you will be able to clean the screens...

Re: Clever Dripper and choosing boat coffee

We used to have a french press onboard but found the Aero Press is faster, easier to clean, less water to clean and produces a great cup of coffee just shy of a perfect shot of espresso. Works so...

Re: Inboard engines and a changing world

Yes, I am seeing big changes on the west coast of the US away from fossil fuels. There are many EV’s on the road and more to come. I’m on my 2nd EV and very happy to drive it instead of my ICE car....

I was in a similar situation a few years ago when I bought my boat, although it was a dry boat. The Fisher Panda 4k genset started but overheated. I thought about pulling the whole system out. Then...

Re: Swinomish Channel from Anacortes to Seattle

I agree with the previous comments regarding timing of tides and areas of caution. Currents do tend to be strong at times making docking an issue if you aren’t paying attention. With a draft of 6’2”...
