Re: Help 100 Live Aboard Sailors Keep Their Homes By Offering Feedback on Mooring Fie

It's happening here in Australia as well, where ever it's pleasant to live and there's a free anchorage people move in. Before you know it there's extra cars on the street, overflowing bins at the...

Re: Just say NO to Prop Speed!

I see hundreds of props every year and Propspeed generally works. There is the occasional badly fouled prop which makes me wonder about the applicator not the product. We get the yard guy to apply...

Re: Looked at two boats - help me decide

HeyHoLetsGo the newish Yanmar diesel is a big bonus and makes the Contest my choice. It also makes it easier to sell the Contest later with the newer engine.

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

SVJedi no one I know talks about kWh it's all Ah.
Captain Rivet 300-400 AH Lithium at 12 volts, along with 400-600w of solar is what I normally see on most boats I survey. Generators are not that...

Re: What size is the original anchor on a Lavezzi

Captain Rivet I use a 20kg Lewmar Delta on our 32 foot yacht. It holds us well.

Re: Fiberglass repair and resin advice for inside out boat

Re: Rotten stringer

Claudiopinto down under I would call it a beam shelf (not that you have any beams in a traditional sense). I am still keen on using timber, probably a hardwood. Maybe two 20mm laminations. Mainly...

Re: Rotten stringer

Claudiopinto I would be removing the stringer from the inside and replacing the rotten stringer with timber well bedded in epoxy glue. When you remove the inside fiberglass casing you should leave...

Re: Why barrier coat?

Drinky Crow I love pre-mixed epoxy fairing compounds they are so easy to use. The one you are using must have some really fast hardener if you can machine sand, it in four hours. I also use the...

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

Dockhead you own a boat so that definitely puts you in the masochist category. The irony is that you own a Moody.

Re: Why barrier coat?

DrinkyCrow a few coats of epoxy undercoat never hurt, personally I would be leaving it to the last week before you do the painting. Give that hull a chance to dry out. Make sure you take a few photos...

Start battery with Lithium house bank, what are we seeing?

Following on the other thread what systems do people have onboard. I am more of a visual learner so I will show you what I commonly see here in Australia.

Re: Docking long keel/heavy displacement yachts.

Cooopec 43 even with all that practice some days docking is still going to be a challenge. So many elements come into play and even the most experienced skippers have a bad day or two. Same with...

Re: Oil slick in a storm to calm swell

Maury we accidentally pumped at least 10 litres of oil through the exhaust of a big power boat. It didn't seem to calm the ripples in the marina. But caused a big drama as we cleaned it all up. ...

Re: Endeavour 24ft Yacht steel frame corrosion

FOGrady how about some more photos? I wouldn't stress to much about it. Everything is fixable and if that is the only issue in your 1970s sailboat? I would say that is pretty good.

Re: insane marina charge

Seaandepagnier my 17 year old boy makes $17 an hour as a waiter/barman. There's zero chance anyone here in Australia would fit that for $15 US an hour ($22Aud).

Coopec 43 one of my clients with a full length keel 36 footer had one of these electric outboards mounted on the transom. It worked really well kicking the transom in the direction needed.
