I wrestled with this after testing a bilge pump (1 of 4 this one rather high in the aft end of the boat) that would not move any water. It turned out that the bronze check valve was frozen closed....

I think you should reconsider your bias against the air-cooled units. I was also biased but was convinced by an engineer to go with air-cooled 10 years ago. I would not go back.

I agree. I'm not scientificly trained but about 1/4 of the way through the Classen thing it started to smell, by the last couple of paragraphs it stunk..:trash:

The previous owner of my Ocean Alexander bought it in San Fransisco and brought it through the Panama canal to the east coast of the U.S.
