Re: Specific Bahamas would you rather

We've cruised the Bahamas with a 5 foot keel and a 7. Missed a bit with the deeper draft, but not much. A good, fast dinghy and watching tides will get you nearly everywhere. The fin will be...

Re: How to anchor a dinghy off a beach?

We have an Anchor Buddy that is a heavy bungee surrounded by a protective, loose weave polyester cover attached to a small Bruce anchor. Allows dropping the anchor away from shore (not too hard to...

Re: Duty free shipping for yachts in transit

Perhaps I didn't sufficiently explain purpose of question. Wanted to know where shipments could be sent with purchase price and shipping the only costs. It doesn't really matter whether a charge is...

Re: Duty free shipping for yachts in transit

Duty free shipping for yachts in transit

Where in the Caribbean can one ship to a yacht in transit without paying import tax or duty? I've heard that it is possible in both St. Maarten and Antigua. Does anyone have recent experience with...

Re: Hot water heating element keeps failing

Have you checked to see if amperage increases when adding power to the heater? Have you checked resistance on elements after they stopped working? Is the element always submerged in water when...

Re: Is there a new type of sail material these days?

If sacrificial area is UV stabilize Dacron it will not shrink as will Sunbrella. Allows sail to better keep its shape.

Re: radar for lighthouse II

We bought a c127 (Lighthouse II) plotter and Quantum radar antenna. It came with cable, but we tried the wifi first (14 m, 46 ft. Hylas - radar at first spreader, plotter at helm) and it has worked...

Re: Shore power voltage while cruising the world?

Most of the replies give good information using various strategies depending on how much you will use shore power in the 240/50 regimen. If going with the isolation transformer you can 1) use the...

Re: diesel bug tank cleaner

We've been stuck in Darwin for over a year and have gotten sludge in diesel that gunks up the Racor bowls. Probably in the tanks as well. Found some stuff at...

Re: Curled / Hooked Jib Leech

Assuming the sun cover is Sunbrella and your leech line is properly tensioned the problem may be the cover. Sunbrella shrinks as it ages and would then tend to curl the leech. A possible help might...

Re: Sharing thru-hull between watermaker and air conditioners.

We use one thru-hull for AC cooling, water maker and galley sink foot pump. No check valves or Y-valves. No dual use. Would however check that no air is pulled in on a new installation. 3 1/2...

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Lots of cruisers use Macs so thought someone might be interested in a report on using GE2KAP with OpenCPN on a MacBook. Just got it running. It was a bit fussy to set up, but Paul was a great help...
