Wow. Great advice all. I am finishing my captain's course and will start taking the boat out once a month. Of course, after reading the manual and checking with the mechanic.

I voted SF Bay as well. It is cheap to live aboard compared to regular housing and the weather is great all year round.

I have a 50' coastal cruiser. Slip in norcal is $520 a month. My budget on maintenance is $1000 a month and that is still not enough. I now wish I would have gotten a smaller boat.
