Hmmm...I don't know if I can do the drill. Hoisting the sail seems like the only real sailing thing required on my boat. Well, okay, I have a manual windlass. I'll think about it.

I like your 'crew'... I have a friend who named his wind vane Livy. Good name.

    Hey Jef,

I am single-handing and its a great boat to handle alone...once I get that monstrous sail up! It is so beamy that I use it as a floating cabin. I go out to the marina mid-week, telework from there, just to be on the bay. Plenty big enough for one and even a couple.

We'll see if my skill set and schedule allow a trip North this summer or if I wait til next. If I do, I'll make it a point to seek out you and your wife and maybe Mike.

    Cheers, Ko

Really? That's cool. I've been wondering whether the boat could handle that type of journey. I would love to get up your way - I have a cousin who sails her Southern Cross 31 on the Sound. Her husband has offered to crew with me if I head their way. Would ultimately like to make it to my brother's place in P-town. But I might have to build up to that a bit more slowly.

If you and your wife enjoy opera and ballet you may have run into my brother-in-law who is orchestra manager of both NY City Opera and Ballet. Good guy should you ever have the opportunity to meet him.

I've corresponded with Mike on Bianca. Would like to see his electric set up someday.

    Best, Ko

Would you be willing to share your excel spreadsheet(s) for maintenance and inventory so I don't have to reinvent the wheel? If so please attach and email to ccannan at Thanks.

Thanks for your response. It certainly is encouraging to see that you are putting it all together: sailing/working/living in NYC. My wife and I have been a little discouraged, but hopefully knowing that more people are doing it will raise the spirits a bit.
I'm busy for a few weeks on a new project, but I'd love to chat some more.
