Hey there. My name is matt duff. I was reaserching an autopilot to replace the one i've got (Simrad WP30) and found that you've been doing the same type of info searching, then i looked at your vessel and found that we have the same model!! sweet. I've been looking at the numbers IE displacement/Amp ratings for the system requirments. Looks like we cant use the DD15 because of the rated boat weight for that drive unit, too bad because it looks like the DD15 pulls a lot less amps, can be mounted upside down. But it is a new design and not tested as well as the HDL drive units. From what i've been reading it looks as though the HDL350 could work due to the displacement limits (our boats weigh in at 20,000 pluse all that gear). unfortunatley i'm pretty sure i have more that 6,500 lbs worth of gear aboard, chain, windlass, fuel, h20 storm gear davits dingy ect ect! So it seems natural to buy the HLD2000L. Which requires the AC42 right, because of amp output needs of the HLD2000L?

Thanks for the nice comments on my boat.
I've spent about two months a year for the last 4 years doing a major refit which included some heavy structural work, changing her from an aft helm (no cockpit) to a center cockpit...because of this she’s a bit hard to recognize...she’s a 1978 CT48 built in Taiwan.
I’ve had a lot of fun working on her and have done some real custom pieces like the davits, canting helm, tilting nav-table, that stainless bow trim and roller, the curved hatch forward of the mast….lots and lots of other really fun projects.
I had the Auto pilot installed in Vancouver….Simrad is real popular with the fisherman there and seemed tough so that’s why I went with it….I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination.
Are you making any headway in your selection?
    James
