Hej,
You asked what took me up to the fringes of civilization? I took a job as a regional veterinarian. My predecessor retired and they were having problems finding someone who wanted to move up so far north, so I took the job. This is in an area known locally as the Bush, but there are some fishing villages and coastal towns among the settlements, and some inland ranches. Major industries are logging, fishing, (together with canneries), ranching, and tourism (its along part of the Inisde Passage between Juneau, Alaska and Seattle, Washington.
I am still settling in as I only arrived last Monday after logging 750nm to get here, fortunately with the help of two sailor friends. It was a good thing to have a crew, as I went through one gale coming up the Pacific Coast of Vancouver Island, and managed to reach port as another was developing in Hecate Strait. Anways, this should be quite an adventure.
