Hey Don, I'm done. Got a classic, I can't do **** with. I've offered the boat to Jacob for 7 k. Do you think you might be interested in my Hallberg RASSY 33 mistral, if Jacob dosent want it.

The boat is valued, in top shape at 45.000 I,got it,for, free and have 7 k into the motor new main sail, anchors 200 foot chain spare main, she's in fantastic shape, did the bottom last weekend with new Zinke.

Thought I'd throw it towards you, if Jacob can't do it.

    Dirk

The boats STUCK in moss landing, and I can't stand it. She does need the wood reworked, I,see that as a solid week of sanding, then sanding again and staining the mahogany.

    Anyways was thinking of you.

    Don,

Remember awhile back you emailed about the Mystery Wind Vane. You mentioned If I ever wanted to sell it to let you know. I have found a Saye's which was originally on boat so I don't need the other. Make me an offer I can't refuse! No horse heads!!

    ...smooth seas and fair winds...

    Hi Don,

Did you ever sell that Columbia 29 trailer to the Cal 25 owner?

I'm interested in picking up a trailer for my Cal 25 for cross country travel and water launch.

    Best,

    Mark

Hey Don, Yea we sold it in winter and took payments until spring. He was hell bent on heading for the North Channel/ Georgian Bay in May and early June. Him and his girlfriend moved aboard and subleased their apartment. I tried to warn him it'd be cold up there until July but they went anyways and were socked in with fog much of the time and "froze their butts off" especially after being used to tropical weather I think it was a shock to both of them lol. They put the boat up for sale in the end of July as they decided the cruising life was for them and are now shopping for something 40+ft long. I ended up getting a great deal on a 36ft Easterly which has proven itself to be a great sailing well balanced boat thus far. I've had it out in 8-10ft Lake Michigan waves (steep/choppy) in 20-25knts with the full main and Genoa up and we made better than 8.5knts on a 68 mile trip across the lake. I'm still keeping up on the Columbia thread though and will chime in if I have anything to offer.

I'll have to check out the comments to see if that's the case. He seems like a nice guy he has owned a number of bars here in Michigan and for a time in Costa Rica. That is where he helped a friend deliver a boat and discovered sailing. They are planning on cruising the Great Lakes this summer and heading down the Mississippi this fall.

    Biography
From the age of 16 to 38 or so, most summers saw me as a river guide in Idaho and occasionally Grand Canyon. In high school I learned to sail on SF Bay and I only lasted 2 years in college before my sailing passion had me putting college aside for a while. In '79, I bought a Columbia 24, a great pocket cruiser, in Santa Barbara. For ten years I sailed around the islands, then lived aboard when I returned to college, and then started a Boy Scout Ship that chartered boats and sailed the islands. Had a couple delivery trips as crew, one good one on a Frers 65 from Sri Lanka to Hong Kong; lots of adventures on that one. Then along came "real life" and a teaching credential and time in the trenches in LA, teaching... and chartering during summers for trips with friends. But now, 25 years later, I am finally happily getting splashed and sunburned again in one of my favorite boats by S and S; it is "the one I always wanted" for sailing my beloved local Channel Islands. My 2 kids are ecstatic, my wife is warming up to it and I am always just looking forward to that close reach, the smell of the islands, and that cup of coffee watching the sunrise, or cool beer watching the sunset, anchored in a quiet cove on Santa Cruz or Santa Rosa or San Miguel Island again soon!
