    Hi Rob, thanks for giving me the heads up about building a cat in Thailand. I was planning to build a cat to survey specs in Sydney when a number of boatbuilders warning me about how expensive and frustratingly difficult it would be jumping through the hoops of the AMSA. So with the free trade agreement with Thailand and as I have travelled and studied as uni exchange program in Bangkok it seems a better option.
    However I would be grateful for any insight through your experiences building your cat in Thailand. Particularly the challenges and setbacks you have experienced on your journey.
    Kind regards.

    Hi Rob,
    Hope you're well... I was reading through the Oceanvolt thread and wondered if (knowing you this is probably a silly question) you'd done the maths on weight savings/gains on using it?
    Yanmar 45 = 220kgs x2 = 440kgs (dry) + fuel (assumed Saba) 940litres = 782kgs plus spares/oil etc we're probably talking 1,300kgs in total.
    SD50s = 46kgs x2 = 92kgs + extra batteries + heavier generator + less fuel.... I wonder if you have filled in the gaps?

    Hi BigBeakie, can you tell me if you ever decided for or against the FreeFlow 46 you were interested in?
    I'd love to know why you didn't (or did!?) . I have got a lot closer to being in a position to buy a cat and circumnavigate but have recently been put off going for a 50ft cat (maintenance costs) and have gone back to the drawing board if you like and am looking for something a little shorter and remembered your recommendation.

    Hi BigBeakie, if I'm reading the Knysna thread correctly you have a FF46 in build or recently completed? If so, I wouldn't mind a chat with you at some point - I think you would have gone through much the same thinking process that I am.

    I notice also that you're in IT and in Sydney, so am I. Are you in the city? Maybe you'll let me buy you a coffee and chew your ear a bit.

    Cheers,

    Tony

    I do not know if I am doing this right but I just joined and would like to talk to people about sailboats but cannot exactly figure out how to do it! Any help out there? Thanks.
