    Hi Andy.

Sorry for the late reply, lol. I am in Thailand cruising. I used a DC 1/2 hp industrial surplus motor, with a 90 degree gear drive. its 90 VDC brush type motor. Those are common on industrial machinery, like milling machines, and variable drive systems. It uses a simple Pulse Width Modulated driver to set the speed, and the foot pedal turns a 5k potentiometer. Hope you are following... its a bit of engineering, but a straightforward app, the only creativity needed is fabbing brackets and fitting it all into the box.

Best luck, let me know how it works.

Just an update on the Columbia 50...I passed on it....someone else bought it, did a bunch of work to it, ran out of money, and then sold it to me at a loss...It will be delivered up here in Michigan around the 4th of November...then the real work starts..will be years before I will get her the way I want, but fun....

Hey Appick, I missed that you sold Blue Bottle! Sorry to see you go from the Columbia family but congratulations on the new boat. I wonder if the buyer is the same person who posted a note on bluewaterboats about making an offer on one? It sounded like yours. Great you got your price! That says something about the qualities of our old boats!

I am excited, but stressed, and worn out over this, arranging with 5 different contractors to get this done. I will be happy when it is at Torreson, and being repowered. Most likely I will have it trailered to my yard, where I can finish the work on it. the nice thing is that it is very simple mechanical, and electrical. Not a lot of extra gubbins, and doohickeys...a lot of cosmetic work, but some cabinetry.

PM me your cell if ya want to chat further....

The Columbia is a whole other story...long story short, and it is literally in the works right now. We have a signed offer, dirt cheap, but signed. The boat has no engine, and is priced as such, read cheap, and has to be towed everywhere. The survey is set for next Friday, and I will probably be, making up my mind that day. Sign the paperwork, run to the bank and sort through all the crap in storage, and there is a lot! I will have to have it moved First thing Monday morning for de-rigging, and loading on a trailer by noon, so they can get past Ft. Lauderdale heading north, by 3 pm, or they will have to stop and wait till the next day to continue. Arranging all this has been a nightmare, and the yard is of no help, and very limited in services, so I have to move it to pull it.

Hey Andy, just a note, I am Scott, Kevin is my brother..LOL. Glad to hear you sold Blue Bottle, finally, one of a sailors two happiest days....

I love the Easterly, really cool, to be honest I have never seen one in person, but the pics and description look great!! I was wondering when you would bring up your upcoming "swab", sorry going all Capt. Ron there...must be so exciting, I can still remember our first, and only, and our excitement, and expectations...and the subsequent lack of sleep...but it is sooo worth it. I am so happy for you..boy or girl??

    Andy,

Sorry I did not reply sooner...did not see the notification till just now. We did not make it. Kevin was leaving for his honeymoon two days prior to the boat show, and I had just gotten back from Florida after making a long week of it looking at boats, it was a whirlwind tour to say the least. I was out the door by 8 everyday, and back around 9 PM at night every night. We put in an offer on one, a Columbia 50, and have to wait till Feb 20 when the owner is available, to hear anything back.

Did you sell your Columbia?? Last time I heard you had three people looking, but never heard anything after that.

Congrats on the new upcoming deckhand!! That is cool, mine is now 7, and started manning the helm at age 5..LOL. She has about 3 miles under her belt now..
