That Guardrail Netting

At the point the WM netting failed, I could shove my hand through it anywhere, and I had 2-year old at the time. Not very funny, really. The stuff is a menace.

Batting cage netting is even better, if you can find it.

I need netting for a 36' union but I am a long ways from the boat. Can I order it overwidth and length and shorten it easily?

Yes, it's kind of a turkey shoot getting an exact amount anyway. as you pull it to full width it gets shorter. You should order a little under 1.5 times the measured length of what you need. So if you need 40 ft order 55-60 ft etc. See here: Fisheries - Product Detail

when you cut, immeditely melt the end, or better yet, use a pistol type soldering iron with one of those melt/cutting tips in it. Reportedly Black is more UV resistant. Nylon seems to last a long time in the sun, but of course nothing lasts forever!

Anyone ever thought about using that bright orange barrier netting they put up along the roadside construction sites? Snaffle a section of that and cut it down to size then attach it to the stanchions and life lines with twine or zip ties.

is ugly . is bright. is stronger than the bs netting folks get hurt depending on..... i have seen it in use--is definitely bright. you do not miss the side of the boat when that is there.

my thoughts too. Super strong, and hard to miss in any light. The extra windage might be a bit annoying though.

I removed my netting it was liberating. Kids are older and it was confining. If your office had dirty windows and they were cleaned that's what it was like. Good to have if you got young things trying to fall over board. Sorry for the drift I remember when the kids got out of diapers it was liberating. Then they didn't need booster seats liberating then they dressed themselves liberating then I cut the net off liberating. Now if they can clean their rooms and start paying some bills I can go after some other strong holds that are repressing me.

about that orange stuff--there is a hans christian here in mazatlan with what the owner calls a cathouse on forward deck made out of the orange stuff-- he sez is very very strong for 2-3 months before sun makes it fail badly/ brittle and flakey. is good to see, and keeps cat inside a place not all over marina....

Interesting comment Zeehag. I think I'm going to acquire a sample and leave it out for a year or so. I see the stuff all the time along the roads at construction sites, and it seems to last long but I've never checked.

I was thinking if I were to sail arctic waters, IE the North West Passage, it would be nice to have, as it would help keep your tail in the boat if you slipped and fell. Rolling across the deck and under the lifelines sort of situation.

sabrekai--i gave you the mazatlan inda hotsummersunfromhell durability --i saw it last longer in san diego---someone on a trimaran used it for puppies.... lasted about a year there....
