Stowaway!

I had to make a quick run to Canadian Tire (our national automotive & hardware chain) for some paint rollers. I left the boat open because I wasn't going to be gone long. When I got back I found this lil' fella havin' a good siesta in the Captain's seat no less.

He's just started coming around and we named him Frodo cause he's an ugly lil' spud with huge feet! Poor lil' fella just wanted some shelter I guess. Shouldn't have any problems with meece this year!

Have you checked to make sure his is not somebody elses kitty? Funny thing with cats, they adopt you, not the other way around.

Another name might have been "Amaran" (group sigh)

Dear knottybuoyz

Thank you for buying me a boat. I will, of course, require certain upgrades, but that can wait.

Sincerely,

Frodo

Funny thing about our neighborhood...people seem to move and think nothing of leaving their animals behind - particularly cats. Every spring at least one finds it's way to our house. Some we are able to take to a friend's farm, some we have to take to the SPCA because they have been so badly abused they are too ill to survive. One we adopted and now there is this one....he or she is probably going to be a farm cat come fall....How do we know he doesn't belong to someone? He is all fir...otherwise skin and bones and he eats like it is his last meal...like he has not seen foodfora longtime......

Cats are pretty sensitive animals. More so than us humans take them for. Cats do not like changes in their lives and know that when people start taking furniture out of their house and totally disrupting their world that it might be time to take off. Yes it is wrong to abandon animals that for all their lives have been dependent on you in a number of different ways. Sometimes though, cats just take off when their world gets turned upside down and quite often it is not the owners fault.

We recently had a cat adopt us. He was a skinny little thing and it was difficult to decide if we should start feeding him. Because you know what happens once you start feeding a stray. Anyway, I had a softspot for him because he was so affectionate and I eventually broke down and started feeding him.

One day about a month later, the owners of the cat happened to walk by the front of the house and saw him out on the front porch while I was out there. They said "Grestsky??!! .....that's our cat!" I was just as surprised and offered immediately to give them their cat back. They though ultimately decided to do what they believed is best for the cat which was to let me keep him. I was happy about that because he is a sweet cat and I was already becoming attached to him as well. Funny thing about this though...he had been gone for 4 months and the owners lived about about a mile away! He survived on his own for that long! He does have a few wild instincts which he probably reverted to while being on his own for that long, but he is gradually becoming more civilized inside the house. He is a solid grey British shorthair that I uncleverly call "Grey"...the name just fits.

Personally i like cats (dogs to i have twelve cats and 2 dogs at my house) animals are good to have because they will stay with you after every one else deserts you. "just don't let it try to fish off the boat."

Your are not up to speed with your homeland security training, that thing is a black hat plant and your on board security has been breached - back for some re-training please.

Not a cat fan but they have their uses. I was at my mom's house one day and saw a mouse scamper through the lounge area. I asked her about it (and the lazy cat) and she said, "It's just one mouse." (My mother was a bit naive) Anyway, when she saw two mice at the same time she called me about what to do.

I told her to stop feeding the cat. She argued that would be cruel to the cat but I convinced her and she stopped putting out the cat food. Lo and behold the cat started bringing dead mice out and "presenting" them to her by dropping them on the floor in the lounge.

Mice problem went away and the lazy-assed cat lost some weight.

Alan - stop feeding the cats...

Alan,
So when you caught your mice, did you bat them around for a while or did you eat them right away?

I wonder if mice can smell like flies? Flies can smell food a mile away. I know around the water front here in Florida, there are water rats and rattlesnakes. I try to keep food off of the boat while tied up to land to keep the creatures away. I have not placed rat guards on my lines like the navy ships. I do think your latest stowaway is cute, but I do not want one.

When in Daytona our neighbor across the finger lost their cat for an afternoon. They were calling Boot's name out, and finally he started answering. They took a peek in one of our ports, and there was Boots all snuggled up in one of our cubby holes. He refused to come out, so they had to come aboard, and retrieve him. I guess it was a case of a cat on a cat!
