Oil and Vinegar

We've been live-aboards for about four months on our Kettenburg 50', Cut to Heal. She's a coastal cruiser, spacious inside but with little real space for food stores. I'm looking for relatively small leak-proof plastic containers for all of my oils and vinegars. (Before we sold the house I counted eight vinegars and five types of oil...had to really cut down here!) any suggestions?

know how you feel. i've taken to space saving measures myself; last week i put the mustard and the ketchup in the same squeeze bottle.

We prefer small glass containers, over plastic.
Plastic punctures & abrades more easily than glass breaks.

I'm in the glass department as well. I'll rather carry less than have stuff taste of plastics, or be difficult to (keep) clean. I don't backpack anymore, I can carry a little glass.

I also have a large assortment of oils and vinagers that I like to keep handy by the stove. I found by transferring them all into the old square glass olive oil jars and labeling them, I can use my allotted space much more efficiently. I also place a ponytail holder around each jar. Keeps them from rattling and it's easy to replace if I get it oily.

Thanks, all! I prefer glass, too. When we had the house I had a great collection of chunky glass bottles into which I put liquor bottle pourers. Still working out all the details of life aboard but so far no regrets!

Oil and vinegar on a boat is used to lubricate toilets--pour all but one container of each down the heads.

the only good use for sox outside of temperate zone climates is as covers fro bottles and glass items to protect from breakage, as life on board can be a tad rough even with coastal cruising......

welcome. i prefer glass over plastic as stuff tastes better from glass...i just cover the glass completely with a sock and stash it in a smaller cabinet with no ability to fall over or crash.

and i keep my butter in an old glass peanut butter jar--one pound size from natural peanut butter....cannot remember name of pb now..long ago remembery.....that, stuck into cabinet safely is a good stash for butter...watch it separate as you sail south...is better than cable tv....
