Aloha Chief,
Time still rolls along no matter how many hours you are on watch or not. I guess I didn't understand the question?

Doesn't 3 on 6 off lead to some jumbled times?

12-3 on am
3-9-off am
9-12 on am
12-6-off pm
6-9 on pm
9-3am ?

Now I understand the question and yes. The name of the person's time on watch needs to be written down by the Captain and posted somewhere handy, such as the chart table or on something waterproof in the cockpit. It is a bit more confusing than 12-4, 4-8, 8-12 etc.
