Saw something on this pass my desk at work today. Seems like they lost their prop & had some steering issues.

Boat was towed off later in the day. Came past my house about 4pm being towed at a rapid rate of knots (in a hurry to get hauled out?) and appeared to have some sort of emergency pump operating judging by the volume of water going over the side.

Was seriously blowing on the day and was well forecast - not sure why anyone would choose to be out in those conditions.

heavy, fat hulls cat with lots of windage and strong rig.

every dog has its day = every boat design has its day. This conditions are ideal for condomarans, until waves not too high.

Cat that does well in light winds will not do well in these conditions as thin hulls will be liability.

I would think he is referring to the new condo like and spacious week end live aboard at the dock catamaran that start at half a million and just go up.

correct. that is another use of it. and it is very enjoyable, believe it or not.

The Prop shaft slips out of the coupling. The prop shaft moves back and blocks the rudder.

No rudder, no prop and water coming into the boat. Not good

A large hose clamp, or zinc placed in the right spot around the prop shaft can reduce the chance of this problem in some installations.

(Note only speculation I have no idea if this was the problem)

It may be only speculation, but it is good speculation.

This gives me an idea for later…will tell you more very soon.

Nice to see it recovered, nasty conditions! I'm surprised no one mentioned the two guys obviously molesting a sheep 7 seconds from the end of that vid. What the hell is going on down there in Tassie?!

. Not possible on my steel, but now you mention it I've seen many where that could happen.
