Rigging a Preventer

Hello all,
I have a question regarding rigging a preventer on my Catalina 27. After doing some internet research and speaking with some Gentleman sailors I've gathered that it is best to rig as far forward as possible to prevent or reduce negative loads on the boom. So far I'm thinking very primitive, ie: simple rigging from boom(tip? question #1) to a block rigged forward (soft shackle around forstay? question #2) then back thru a cam cleat to the cockpit. Question #4 is what happens when I accidentally gybe? Any major concerns or problems that I'm going to encounter would be greatly appriciated. I always like to learn as much as possible before attempting new stuff!

Thanks again,
Fair Winds & Calm Seas

Re: Rigging a Preventer

No sense arguing religion.

There was a long thread on this in the last year.

There are about a dozen ways to rig a preventer and it can change depending on other factors such as if you have a boom vang or not.

Try the search function, but skip down to the google bit and search using that.

You should get this, I think.
