Crossing from Florida to Mexico

would like to get some information about crossing to Mexico ,
I looking to buy a proline 2950 WA , with 2 x 225 hp , since I Canadian my plan is to got from Florida , Cuba , and Islas de mujeres Mexico , can it be done and how dangerous is it to do that , the length from Cuba to Mexico is only 140 nm , if you could get me some help that would be really grea

Be careful of the Gulf Stream. It can get rough. Choose a weather window carefully.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the Proline myself. Maybe some power guys will chime in. What is your fuel capacity and range? I guess that's the first thing to look at. I'm sure those outboards suck the fuel...


I looked it up, and looks like 300 gallons?

Assuming you know what your doing, 140 NM in that boat is easy, a days fishing will cover that many miles, easy

While it's 140nm from Cuba to Mexico you need to know where your western most fuel, assuming you can get good fuel, dock is in Cuba. You also need to take into account the strong Gulf Stream current that runs north between Cuba and Mexico. This is in addition to the necessity of a good we.ather window and having the proper equipment aboard; ie. EPIRB and radar. You'll also porbably get stopped along the way also by the "Federales". If it has 300 Gl, it will have at least a 300 NM range if run pretty hard, maybe 400+ at the speeds it will most likely be run at.
Of course only a fool would take my word for it, trust but verify.
Ought to be able to make 30 kts, at least 20+ in suitable wave conditions.
I used to make runs of similar distance out to the middle grounds in the Gulf in similar boats, obviously pick a good weather window, but you will cover distance like we can't believe, 140 NM should be what a 5 or 6 hour trip?
