Time to Introduce Myself

Hello, My name is Curt. I have been lurking for awhile now. Discovered the forum just a few months ago. Have been in love with the ocean since an early age. Digging clams on coastal WA beaches, and salmon fishing in Puget Sound and WA coast at about 5yrs old hooked me for life. A move to SoCal and discovery of surfing fueled the lust for about ten years. Tales of high adventure in AK led me to commercial fishing for Halibut and Crab for 7yrs where I learned to love life on a boat and honest hard work. A skipper of mine once said "this is the price you pay to be a free man". I loved the life but it was cut short by an accident. I then went to college at the U of WA where I discovered sailboats. I crewed on raceboats and cruised with friends in Puget Sound. I owned a O'day full keel Mariner for quite awhile and loved it.
Since I finished college...life/marriage/kids/career....you know "all the excuses" have happened, not to mention being landlocked.
I know what I want but it's going to be a few more years, I am waiting my turn like so many others here on the forum are. Until then I am studying and learning everything I can from here on CF and anywhere else I can.
I feel I have unfinished business with Our Mother Ocean as there is still wanderlust and need for exploration in my soul....wow, is that deep or what!!
Anyway, great to be here and thank you all.
Curt

G'Day Curt, and welcome to CF!

With your background of fishing in the Gulf of AK etc, normal cruising is gonna seem pretty tame, but I bet you will come to love it as we do. Where are you located now, mate? I couldn't figure it out from your post.

Anyhow, enjoy the ride.

Jim

Re: Time to Introduce Myself

Hello Curt! Perhaps the family needs to cruise and explore- looking back I wish I had had the balls to do it years ago when my kids could have shared in. Now I hope the grandkids will enjoy it on summer vacations.
It can happen- if you want it bad enough.....

Its only deep when you step off the shelf,
Remember, the Ocean has been there for hundreds of years, and will be for hundreds more after you are gone, Dont wait until those last days to become one with it..............

I am presently living in Rapid City, SD....about as land locked as you can get in North America. Kids in middle school and high school. We do have some local sailing options but there's not a coral reef to be had anywhere.
