After 15 years of living on and sailing my Norsea27, I cannot fathom the idea of ever doing anything else. My motivation for registering on Cruiser's Forum is to learn from other registrants, find answers to questions I may have, share my experience sailing and just maybe find a free spirit able and willing to share my sailing lifestyle.

After a nearly four year hiatus from long distance cruising, I am poised to head south in September or October to Mexico - then to the Marquesas in April. How far I'll go this time is not known. Nor did I know when I left Mexico in 2000 for the Marquesas on a whim... My reasons for going are substantially unchanged. Grew up an Air Force dependent moving frequently between the U.S., Japan, the Philippines and several of our States. Traveling to places with different food, culture and more is in my blood. I also have political motivations and a certain malaise toward American culture and attitudes some of us harbor against the "other" races, ethnicities and cultures around the world.

I love sailing and everything it has to offer - except the growing intrusions by one authority or another into the sailing/live aboard lifestyle. The buoys that increasingly crowd once open and fee anchorages, for which you are now expected to pay. The boat police and sheriff, changing role of the Coast Guard toward militaristic ends, and growing tension between "anchor outs" and those whose boats populate marinas everywhere. It may be sooner than later that anyone hoping to live aboard and anchor rather than park their boat in a slip will have no option but to leave "home". But then, there are less than favorable changes taking place "out there" as well. More expensive, restrictive and in some locations - increasingly dangerous - particularly to Americans after 8 years of Bush/Cheney, our occupation of Iraq and provocations toward Russia.

It's simple, but sad. The world is getting smaller via population & technologies. We just need to learn to adjust. I am sure with your travels your knowledge here will be much appreciated......BEST WISHES & WELCOME....i2f

Well said Armido and welcome to the forum.

As a long time cruiser in the sub 30 foot class I am sure a lot of folks will be interested in your experiences.

A lot of us have strong opinions about government, politics and religion. That's why we've learned to limit how far these discussions go in the forums.

Take a moment to read the rules when you can.

And let's stick to your adventures as a single handed small boat sailor!
