Southward Bound

Hi everyone. My wife (Tricia) and I would like to introduce ourselves. We're an early retired couple, in our late 50's, just about to set out on our dream cruise. We've sailed about 20 or 30 thousand miles up and down the west coast of Canada and Southeast Alaska over the last three decades and are now ready to head out of the Juan de Fuca strait and turn left for the first time. We glady suffer from "horizon fever" and think maybe this will be a cure. We've sailed in Mexico with friends on their boat before, but have never taken our own boat down. We're planning a couple of seasons in the Sea of Cortez, then probably down to Central America and who knows where from there. Could be out for a couple of years, could be a decade or more...
We have a Kelly-Peterson 46 named Falcon VII on which we've lived for the past three years here in Victoria, B.C. Canada. We're into cruising slowly, poking about here and there and getting to know the locals, but that doesn't mean we don't like to get our boat sailing fast once in a while, especially if there's another boat in sight.
We'd love to hear from other cruisers who are planning to be down in Mexico or are already there.

Sounds like us a couple of decades (well, nearly three...) ago. We started from SF rather than BC, but the plan was sorta similar.

We're still at it, for it is an entirely addictive life.

Hi Jim and Tricia, we'll be right behind you. Well, not RIGHT behind you, but have some plans to retire in about 6 years, upgrade our Hunter 31 to a blue water liveaboard, and hopefully head down to the gulf, then to Hawaii, then back to Vancouver. Good luck on your trip, and keep us posted.

Welcome to the forum J & T. I will be leaving Alameda in late August, just before it trends cooler and meandering south. I would offer to buddy boat but you have soooo much more waterline that poor Joli Elle would have sore feet trying to keep up...
By the way...I'm a Canuck from Ontario. Just couldn't do snow any longer.

Nice to meet you.
My name is Liam and like you retired early.
I have a Beneteau Oceanis 331 that I have put about 12K nm under the keel since I bought her in 2004. She isn't really big and luxurious but she is paid for and I can easily single hand (seems like I do a lot of that). sv/ITZAYANA berthed in Santa Cruz Ca.
Most of my sailing has been between San Francisco and San Diego. Never been too interested in going north of SF bay. I don't do cold really well.
Getting the boat ready for another summer in SoCal and the Channel Islands then south to the Sea of Cortez in the fall.
