Newby (to Forum and Sailing) from Melbourne, Australia

Hi,

Just joined forum to start my sailing adventures from the very beginning.

Myself and my fiance have decided to take on a new challenge in life. we have started doing sailing lessons and set a plan for ongoing lessons and get experience.

Short term goal- Learn to sail.
Long term goal- Sail the pacific and keep learning to sail.

I have a lot a questions which many probably will be answered though out our training and "getting out there and doing it". I do look forward to checking out posts on the forums and I will be sure to ask a few questions myself.

Short Profile.

Age 38
interests- Scuba Instructor, Fishing, Cooking
Employment- Sales Manager (might change to Sails Manager in future)

look forward to meeting you

Scott

Welcome to the forum Scott. Sails manager sounds like a fine vocation or vacation as the case may be.

Re: Newby (forum and sailing) from Melbourne Australia

Hi Scott,
My husband Charley and I have similar dreams/goals as you and your fiance. We start sailing lessons in 2 weeks. We recently happened upon, and purchased, an older 31' trimaran which we love! Don't have a clue how to sail it as yet, it's in our back yard! Long term goals are to sail the Bahamas, Caribbean, and possibly beyond, starting in 2-3 years. I am a nurse practitioner, and will probably have to work some, on and off, while cruising...hopefully not too much!
Good luck to you guys!
Anna

Re: Newby (to Forum and Sailing) from Melbourne, Australia

FYP,

I'm in Sandringham, so I have yacht clubs nearby but havent yet joined one. We have completed some courses both on water and theory. We hope to get some experience by crewing on some races and continuing our courses enough to be able to buy a yacht and practice on our own boat.

We have a lot to learn and are preparing to get the experience over the next two years. All plans may change as everyone knows!

Have been looking through lots of boats for sale to get an idea whats on offer. I think this makes it more confusing and everyone has a different opinion also. But we figure just get in amongst it and well make our decisions based on what we learn over time.
