Newbies saying G'Day :)

G'day everyone,

My name is Debbie and my husband is Athol. We are new to the board and just wanted to say G'day to you all.

We are planning on making a lifestyle change (from land to sea) and are happily cruising through the forums reading all your posts.

Maybe we'll see you out on the water sometime !

Cheers,
Deb

G'day Debbie and Athol, welcome. Is that an Aussie accent I read?

Hi Deb and Athol.

Welcome aboard.

Is there any chance you can post some general info about yourselves - either in the profile - or here.

Like where you're from in this big world - whether you have a boat at present - the kind of things you're both interested in.

We'd like to get to know you both - but only if you're comfortable.

If there's anything you want to know - speak up - and you'll find no shortage of views and opinions - on anything nautical - here.

A bit of info :)

Hi Rodney & Penny,
Oops - a little info about ourselves would be helpful wouldn't it.

I (Deb) am a voice-over person with 16 years experience (personally I don't like the term 'voice actor' as I don't think i'm much good at acting). I do that as a side business and to keep the security of a regular "I know how much I'm getting this week wage" I write/produce/edit television commercials for a local tv station here in North Queensland, Australia.

My husband (Ath) was a commercial production cameraman/editor but after 18 years of the same old same old, he decided to quit the full-time drudgery and opted to become a freelancer instead. He also started up a mowing business where we live (50k's north of town). So, when he's not mowing or freelancing, he fishes or crabs.

We have only had experience in small power boats (both Haines, fibreglass monohulls) but love the ocean and when we had our boats we were always out on the water at every opportunity.

We have come to the stage in life where we both want to live our dream so ... where do we start? After finding this forum we think this is a great place to begin.

We have both tried sailing (and nothing against anyone who does), neither of us enjoyed it. So, we have our eyes peeled for the right cruiser when the time comes.

In the meantime, we are enjoying the forum immensely and are sure to be regular visitors for all the information we can get.

Cheers everyone!
Deb & Ath

Hi Deb & ath, from Melbourne, Australia.

I/We are in the same possie, though we are gathering pennies and waiting on the kids to be out on there own-before our adventure can begin. Both John(my hubbie) & I have been boating our whole lives in one way or another, yet now we want to live aboard, motorcruise in some thing like a Ranger 40' or 40' clipper, they are the boats we are looking at. 5 or 6 years until we can go, but that gives us time to do our home work and buy the boat of our dreams,
Happy times! Hope to talk with you again.

Kath&john.

Hi Deb and Ath - I sailed as a kid and was convinced that I was a power boater. The sailing bug bit hard last year and i am totally into it.

To each his own and I am never averse to a day trip on a trawler as long as the beer is cold ;-)

Welcome aboard.

Thank You

Thank you guys for such a lovely welcome.

My apologies to Rodney - I thought Penny was human (if she's anything like our dogs, she probably thinks she is and gets treated as such). lol

It's so comforting to know there's such a great group of people on this board either doing what we want to do or planning a similar experience.

As I said, we're sure to be regular visitors here.
