new member seeking help and advice :)

Hi all I'm Tom.

I'm a new member of this forum and iv never sailed before but iv always loved the sea and was a dream of mine to do so. I am hoping to finally do something about it however I'm a complete beginner so id really appreciate some help and advice from the experience you guys have.

I'm from the North West UK and id love to have my own little yatch for year-round sailing, my partner has family on the isle of Man so from realistically the furthest id be travelling would be 100 miles but generally it would just be a mile or so out from shore. Id like to keep the boat in my garage which is just average size as i think it makes more sense than paying year round to have it moored, i am thinking of around the £5.000 mark as my buying budget for a nice second hand small yatch is this realistic? Iv seen some really nice ones for around 3 grand but i don't know if they are to good to be true.

If i only plan on Sailing off shore not on lakes ect would i still need a licence or insurance stuff like that?

any advice would be appreciated thanks

Tom
