Hello everyone, my husband and I have decided to buy a Sailboat instead of a house witch means we plan on living on it. We also plan on crossing the ocean, as we have friends and family in Europe. Now that said we have never sailed or driven a boat (except a bass boat), so we starting by gathering all the information we can get our hands on. And joining this forum seems like a good start.
There's a lot of good info here, so be ready to get information overload!
Seriously though, it's a great place with good people. You'll like it here.

A 14-foot mini-cruiser is minimalist. A 19ft is comfortable, and anything much larger than a 25 borders on ostentatious.
Welcome aboard. There are a LOT of knowledgeable people here who freely give of that knowledge.
You may want to get familiar with the search functions of the site, as many questions may already have been answered. Also, take a moment and review the rules; our biggest rule is "be nice"

Well you are only about 30 min from Kemah and clear lake which is the 3 largest grouping of pleasure boats in the nation. There are so many people who both live on there boats or are about to go or just came back from cruising. They would be a great place to both look at boats and get to know cruisers. There are also a lot of very inexpensive charters there. Some for the day some for longer but at least you can get on the boat and most times the captain will be happy give you a lesson or two.
We're just starting out in the same way! Currently looking into buying a 22' pocket cruiser to learn how to sail on and enjoy w/ the family. Gotta' start somewhere!
I have spent a week completely immersed in this forum, learning and reading everything and anything that might help me start down the path. I've met great people, had a barrage of formidable advice and helpful hints.
Aloha and welcome aboard!
We have quite a few folks who contribute to the forum from your area. Hope you can find some friendly sailors to help you with your questions.
