Thumbs up Hi, Newbie from Quebec

Hello, we would just like to say hi. We just bought a Macgregor 26M and put it in the water on the 23ed of June and did our first outing with it on the 24th with the motor only ,as it was a holiday here and there were alot of boats on the water... Any advice would be greatly apprechiated from all. Would love to hear from other owners of Macgregors 26M or X.

It is a 26 footer, sleeps 6, head room 6ft, water ballast with a Dagger board and rudders, 50 HP motor, with a main sail and janiva. Has a custom made trailer with it with surge brakes (optional).

Where is your boat? There are many places to go on Lake Champlain, this will be my first season on it, so I am still exploring. So far I have visited the 2 most popular anchorage: Deep Bay and Valcourt Island.

We put it in a Marina for this year, it is at the Nautique in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, we have only taken it out once with the motor, we received our Main Sail yesterday, we still need to install the rolling furling on it.

My spouce has already sailed years ago (30 years ago) on much bigger sailboats and cruisers, but has forgotten alot of small details so we are taking it slow, he has a friend who has been sailing for years, and races with it, so he will go with him and coach him. The rest of the family has never sailed or done any kind of boating. We have everything to learn on this boat.

I have gotten my permit but am waiting to try this baby until my spouce is confortable with it, at worst I will go take a course with it. ( I seen a place where you can use your own boat)

Thank you Skiprjohn, We are really happy with our baby.
I am not quite sure of what you mean by ''Can she get up on a plane?'' I am new at all of this '' If you mean can we beach it Yes we can, we can sail, motor and pull a inner tube or waterskie with it. (but we are not there yet)

Can you tell me on what map these are found on, we have the maps for Lake Champlain but it would be so much quicker.

Thumbs up Sailors from Quebec in Florida

ahoy, all Quebec sailors going to Florida, I am a member of a forum whose members are mostly in the US and many in Florida. There seems to be a fair amount of hostility from the US members towards the sailors from Quebec, now, don't get you knickers in a twist just yet !@!!\

Seems there sailors who just tie up uninvited at private homes to take on water
, no permission asked, seems they love to sail down the centre of the icw which is really quite narrow, seems they don't listen to vhf 16 and get all upset when a power boat passes, these seem to be the majority of complaints , but there are others.

Now, PLEASE, pass this around to all the sailors you know including Yacht Clubs,
we know that some power boaters are real jerks but most of the Yachtsman in Florida are responsible, pleasant people and remember, you are guests in there neck of the woods.

This is posted as an attempt to make all cruisers life a little more pleasant out on the water.

Many thanks,

Dennis in Vancouver and Florida.
