Hi from Grimsby

Hi there, have just found this site after surfing the Mast Up route through Holland. Chris and myself Clive semi-retired last year and we are fortunate in being able to sail the summer and hopefully work the winter for a few years. Since retirement we have cruised the East Coast of England and Scotland through to Dartmouth on the English Channel. This year we are planning to cruise either Holland or France. We like to travel at our own pace and enjoy a relaxed approach to cruising and exploring. This seems to be a great place for sharing a common interest in cruising and I look forward to being a part of that.

Hi from the opposite coast, Liverpool, although I have worked Grimsby, Immingham, Hull, and Goole. Had some pretty good times over there in my youth

Re: Hi from Grimsby

Well you guy's what can I say, thankyou for a wonderful welcome. Now some say Grimsby is the last resort but they haven't come across the HCA marina where beer is still only £1.46 a pint and a Courvossier Cognac or JD will still only set you back £1.10 a shot. I think I must have got something right. Cheers everyone

Re: Hi from Grimsby

Welcome Zigzu, I hitchhiked from Ireland to Grimsby in 1958 looking for a ship. I expect it's changed since then. Does it still smell of fish?

Re: Hi from Grimsby

Yes the fish docks still smell of fish and the smoke houses smell of woodsmoke and they all smell of jeyes fluid when they clean them down. There are in fact lots of different smells some of which I still haven't traced.

There are of course lots of Survey and transports boats for the turbines these days as well as the surviving fishing boats working out of Grimsby. Royal Dock continues as a cargo dock and lots of new cars are landed at the victoria dock. The river is always very busy as well with traffic for Hull, Immingham, Gole and all the other little ports.
