Hi Everyone, Just joined and have a question on Marinas in Portugal?

Hi, Have just purchased a 1999 Bavaria 42' in Biograd Croatia. Finally exported after 3 weeks of waiting for paper work. Sailed from Zadar Croatia to Montenegro, hauled out and on the hard in Tivat. Montenegro very nice and good prices for out of the water winter storage.
If anyone knows any place to haul-out around Sthn Portugal be interested to hear from you. Thanks John B.

I believe Boatman 61 and a few others are familiar with those marinas. If you go to Vilamoura, you had better have bags of euros as ballast.

Hi John
Montenegro sounds very interesting. We are in the process of buying a boat in Croatia and looking for a reliable and thorough surveyor (one who knows what he is doing). Do you have any comments to this end? Our private email is G & D g_folkard (at) yahoo (dot) com (dot) au

Hi there. Been in and and around the Algarve eight years - best yard to haul out, winter or get work done is Sopromar in Lagos. It is run by Hugo and Pedro who have excellent English and have provided me with a superb service over the years.

Sorry I can't help, but isn't Croatia amazing? I sadly had some friends there who kept their boat in the water over winter, and during the second winter a storm took it on the rocks and trashed it, so no wonder you want to take it out!

Oh, welcome aboard!

There is also a piece of the coast there that belongs to Spain and they have many marinas with travelift too. I have seen the one in Chipiona and it looked OK. Cadiz did not have a good travelift but you have Rota and Santa Maria just opposite. And there are many others everywhere between Gibraltar and Faro / Lagos.

I can recommend the facilities at Portimao.... nice open entrance with the marina to port as you enter.. the B'yard is further upriver near the old bridge.
Excellent services and a variety of chandlers, sailmaker and an easy stroll into Portimao over the bridge.
There's also a supplier for the fishing boats nearby where antifoul/cordage etc can be bought... in town there's specialty suppliers for SS work etc...

Oh... forgot to mention... Barnie's right...
There are a lot of nice Marina's on the W Spanish coast... just one problem...
95% of them wont let you work on your own boat... awhile back they'd turn a blind eye but today... no way.
