Hello from the Land of Enchantment

Hi Everyone!

I have been reading this forum for over a year now, and thought is was about time to introduce myself!

My husband an I decided about about 18 years ago that we eventually wanted to sail and see the world. For the past seventeen years we worked hard to make this dream a reality. Late 2009 we took sailing classes in BVI, bought a Moorings 4600, and used it about once month. We thought we had better make sure that we really like to sail! Not an easy task to learn from New Mexico. Well, we love it, and are ready to do more. Last month we made the big jump--bought a Privilege 495, located in Thailand.

The dream is finally coming to fruition, but buying a used boat is proving challenging. I learn so much this forum, and appreciate all the members experience, knowledge, and patience with those of us who are new.

Thanks,

CynthiaP

Do you plan to sail her home?

Re: Hello from the Land of Enchantment

Hi Gord!

We sure hope so! Trying to get a mainsail, hardware, and a circuit board sorted out,--it is beginning to feel that sailing is still a long distant dream! Headed back for a couple of months on the 28 Oct.

Route is a big question! We are planning on exploring the area for a year or so, improving our skills and getting to know the boat. Who knew 4 ft would seem so much bigger?

We originally had planned on having her shipped or skippered back. Phuket is filled with expats and cruisers who either stopped permanently there, or came back after a circumnavigation. Everyone, including our insurance agent, has encouraged us to take her back ourselves. But only after cruising the area. It is really beautiful...and boat work (at least labor) is very reasonable!

What an adventure!

Cheers,

Cynthia
