Hello from Tennessee

Hi
My name is Neil and I am a recent resident of Chattanooga, TN. Just moved here from Georgia. My wife and I have a Hunter 42 and a couple of Hobies. We have 3 other kids - girls 23, 20, and a son 14. I grew up on the ocean in England and my wife and I were fortunate enough to move to the States 23 years ago. We are now citizens and proud to call this home. As new residents to Chattanooga we are scouting out locations to move our boat to. We have looked at spots on Chickamauga and Watts Bar. I'm leaning towards Watts Bar but would appreciate any recommendations or suggestions. Our dream is to head south to the ocean in a few years - so at least Chattanooga gives us Gulf access albeit a long trip! Would enjoy hearing from anyone, particularly anyone in our area!

Don't miss taking the boat to Tellico Lake. That is one of the most pristine lakes in East Tennessee. It would be interesting to see how far you could get up stream.

Look forward to seeing you on the water. I have a Sabre 36 out of Harrison Bay State Park.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I'm continuing my search for marinas within an hour is so of Chattanooga. So if anyone has suggestions for anywhere that has a friendly group and can take a 42 ft, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Re: Hello from Tennessee

Neil,
Welcome to the area. I am a lifelong resident and sailor. I would suggest Sale Creek Marina; Contact Andre' there and mention my name, Alan Winger. Although not currently in touch, Andre' and I go way back. He is a professinal and will advise you on how he either might help or suggest someone who can.
I hope you will consider joining Privateer Yacht Club, A sailing club a few miles north of Chickmauga Dam. We have a cabin there and have been members for 35 years. Our current boat is kept on the East coast.
Again Welcome to the City and to the Forum!
Alan

Thank you Alan. I stopped by Sale Creek last week and will also check out Privateer.

Re: Hello from Tennessee

Welcome to East Tennessee. I have a Hunter 34 on Watts Bar. As long as you are looking I would check out Terrace View, Spring City boat dock or Rhea Harbor - all in Spring City on Watts Bar. There is Blue Springs on the meigs county side also.

Re: Hello from Tennessee

Are you still in the Chattanooga area? Found this thread and wondering where you landed? We moved to Cleveland 3 years ago and I'm looking for a place to get on the water and build some time for chartering.

I learned to sail while living in Tennessee on TVA Lakes near Memphis.

A quick search on the internet shows you have a nice place to sail and/or race nearby. (20-30 miles maybe)
