Hello from Illinois

Hi everyone, name is Sean, wife is Angela, we have 4 kids that range from 15 to 10. Wive and I have been discussing/planning for our next phase of life and we think Cruising around the Caribbean on a catamaran might be what we are looking for.

Options we have discussed include moving to a "beach area", moving onto a lake that could afford year round boating (currently we are lake boaters).

And new to the mix for consideration is sailing. I served a stint in US Navy as a machinist mate aboard a submarine and I have always been enamored with the idea of sailing.

We understand that the romanticism of some things doesn't always jibe with reality. I look forward to learning a bit more about sailing on this forum.

Kind regards,

Sean

Badco, I sail on Carlyle lake in Illinois, there are several hundred sailboat spread out between three Marinas. It may be close enough to where you live to get some sailing experience.

I've been down to Carlyle before. We take our runabout over to Clinton Lake most of the time. I have some friends that sail on that lake, that I hope draw upon as well. Though, I don't think Clinton is quite a nice for sailing as Carlyle is.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I was impressed with all the sailing done on Carlyle. We got there kind of late in the season last time I visited and most boats were being put up for winter.
