Hello
We have not sailed in 30 years and then only Sunfish, Lasers or 15 foot dinghy's. We are now looking to get into a 30-40 cruiser to sail the coast of Maine/New England. After I complete my sailing lessons of course!!!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Was just out on a Sunfish for a couple hours yesterday. What fun!!
A bunch of us here have cruising boats and some of them are under repair. I get my sailing fix by using my club's boats from 10 footers to 26 International Folkboats and lots of Hobie Cats as well.
Good to have you here and I'm glad you are opting for sailing lessons.

We are looking forward to cruising the coast and eventually going as far north as Newfoundland and as far south as Florida.

Hi DagdaTim,

Welcome to the forum and good luck in your search for the cruiser. I think most sailors will tell you that learning handle and trim sails on a small boat is a great way to learn and can make you a better sailor on a bigger boat. On the small boat every line you pull, every little puff of wind you immediately see and feel the effects.

Not so much on a larger boat so it can be a lot harder to build your skills on the bigger boat. On the other hand the bigger boat is a lot more forgiving if you aren't trimmed just right; they don't usually throw you in the water like a Sunfish.

I took the Lancaster Course at Colby College in Waterville, Maine when I was a young whippersnapper. You live in an awesome area for sailing.

I worked at Colby for 28 years taking care of the athletes and traveling with the teams.
The Lancaster course was always a summer staple and had a great rep.
