Greetings from South Africa

Good evening,

My homeport is the tiny village St Francis Bay on the SA east coast.
It is home to what was called the perfect wave in the 1960's surfing cult movie, The Endless Summer. It was here that Bruce Brown found the dream wave and the village's surf spot is still called Bruces.

Our other claim to fame is that the St Francis cats are built here. It is always a sight to see the new ones being hauled down the street, mast up, sails bent on, for the 8 kilometer trek to the harbour. Causing a mild traffic jam for the 10 odd cars on the town's narrow streets.

I am a former blue water sailor, now family and business man, but still a keen sailor. My interests are with trimarans (my boat is a Farrier f9ax which I built myself) and shorthanded sailing.
I hope to do a short, 1700 mile trans ocean race with it at the end of this year.

For proper cruising I would like to go back to Tierra del Fuego. But with a nice metal boat. Spent an all too short 14 days there onboard Pelagic Australis.

That's me.

Regards,
Banjo.

Hello Banjo from St Francis,
Just had a look at the video made of the St Francis 50 "SULIERE" being tractored from the yard to the slipway into the sea.
By the way a couple of us are looking for MacIntosh 47s - one of which was/is named "Banjo"

Hiya Bango,
Welcome aboard!! We are late of Randburg, having left SA in '87 for greener pastures. I can say that even after all this time, seldom does a day go by that we do not miss Africa. Hopefully we'll get back one day and if or when we do it will be by boat. Cheers!!
