Greetings and hello all...........We just purchased a Bayfield 25, our first sailboat, and we are very new at this. Right now the boat is in a marina at Elephant Butte Lake, NM. Our plan is to become familiar with the Excuse, and sailing, then take off to the Baja where we like to winter, and there get to know her even better. My wife Carol and I are looking forward to this new adventure, and we enjoy Cruisers forum very much. Thanking you all in advance for any help or suggestions on questions we might post..........Gary

Grew up in Las Cruces, and used to race J's in Elephant Butt. Warning- once you get out of the sand, it may be difficult to go back!

Hi Gary,
Welcome, just remember, any mistakes are part of the learning curve, and they can give you a good laugh afterwards. Many an evening has been spent among friends with a glass of wine/beer (or two) re-living.... slight !!!! mishaps, that we have all had over the years.

Hi Gary,
We are north of Santa Fe for part of the year and in the Caribbean for the other part. My brother in law did something similar with a trailerable sailboat in Santa Fe and sailing on the lakes in Northern NM. He had prior experience in the Caribbean though. Now he owns a larger boat that he keeps in San Carlos and that is working pretty well.

Enjoy the learning and I'm sure you'll love sailing the Sea of Cortez

LOL Newt......we are trying to get out of the sand, and are at the Butte now, with a couple of J's in front of us. Gonna be a great time. Take care and thanks.......gary

Well SkiprJohn, she is a small lady, and we are hoping that she has a big heart. We like what we have seen so far. As my wife would say, she just needs a little more makeup and we should be off to the races.....thanks for the kind words.
