Hi guys, i have been browseing the web for the last few years looking, seeing and deciding on what yacht to get. well its all happend I have bought a 42ft catamaran,, yes i have read lots of threads here on the subject of choice.
It has taken some time to find the right size, and price. Cats dont come cheap.
I have bought a cat that is still requireing some fit out inside, but having good carpentry skills , this wont be a problem, plus I can fit it out to suite my requirements, the basics are there, gally, heads, shower one semi complete cabin, rigging and sails, she is already launched and is usable.
Any tips an fit out would be welcome.

We had our catamaran in Whangarei on both of our trips to New Zealand. We found it to be a good place to work on Exit Only. Plus there are lots of craftsmen in the Wangarei area to work on yachts, and they do some very good work.

If you need any professional advice about how to finish off projects on your cat, there is help available in Whangarei.

Congrats on your purchase! It sounds like you have a good bit of work ahead and a great attitude. How about some pictures when you get a chance?

She is exactly what I wanted,, this way I know how to fix anything, thats proberly the most important lesson here on the forums,, be self sufficient!!

Hi Pacificcat,

Makes me shiver all over, not sure if its the coffee I just had or the thought of finding a cat that suits you and it needs work.

Putting your own touches to the beast is really nice but getting to know her inside and out is going to be a huge advantage.

Like the others really looking forward to seeing some photos. Some before you start would be great then we can compare them to your finished results.

Have fun in the sun, but remember as many say here the journey is the destination. When the task at hand is not going that smoothly (as they often don't) sit back and smile, enjoy the view, then back to the task with a fresh look or new approach.

I have proberly been looking for 5 yrs, as to the fitout, i have seen very fancy like some lagoons etc,, but am going for a more practicl and functional approach, limeted but tasteful wood trimmings , lots of white in the hulls, floors? not sure yet but it wont be traditional wood stripes. basicly I will fit it out to suite me and my wife, with what makes us comfortable, i dont have any plans to ever sell her so dont worry about pleaseing any one other than us.... pics comming next weekend
