Greetings From MA

Hello all,

I've been lurking around these forums for a couple months now and finally decided to take the plunge and join in the fun.

I'm a recent college graduate who works in electrical generation up in Massachusetts. I've been slowly learning to sail over the past couple of years, with the intention of eventually doing some costal crusing and possibly living aboard in the Northeast. I once spent a few months at sea on a 470ft. converted cargo ship in the Gulf of Mexico and eastern Caribbean, but in terms of actual sailing, I've yet to learn on anything bigger than the 15 foot hunters at my local sailing school.

This seemed like the best place to learn from crusiers with a little more experience than I do! Thanks in advance for answering all my newbie questions!

Regards,
Eric

Eric,

Elated that you have jumped into the fray.... We look forward to sharing your progression.... Which unfortunately has the extreme possibility of turning into obsession...

There's worse things!

(although you'll be pressed to think of them when you're grinding bottom paint)...

Why do boat registration numbers in MA begin with the letters MS?

Same reason California's are CF. They were introduced way before zip code letters and had marched to a different drummer I guess. My question would be why subsequently was Congress too lazy to effect a change to more reasonable nomenclature corresponding to postal abbreviations?

Howdy Eric!

Welcome aboard.

I read your intro and the part about a few months at sea on a "converted cargo ship" is interesting and I suppose has some good stories attached to it.

Best of luck on learning what you want about sailing and fair winds to ya!
