I joined a couple months ago. Got a wild hair up my butt and decided boating was going to be my next chapter in life. I have the boat (in the Oakland bay area for now) I still need to learn to sail. I also need more time in my life, but seriously, I couldn't be happier sitting at the marina drinking a beer or some wine, watching a sunset or my kids play on the dock. No, but seriously, it's all coming together for me. I'd like to get the boat to a cheaper marina, maybe up closer towards Benecia. I'd like a cheaper spot, maybe an easy place to practice sailing, a cool community of sailors or wanna be sailors like me! Any suggestions? P.S. marin county would be my ideal spot, but it seems so expensive!

Well...you could try Richardson Bay but it has it's own unique problems. Anywhere you go you will have to pay at least $8.00 a foot for a slip.

So I guess $185 is cheap. Just wish the gas getting there didn't cost me so much, lol. What are Richardson Bays unique problems?

Celestialsailor's been in that area for awhile at several different marinas. He'll steer you in the right direction if you are ready to change.

Welcome aboard, Mich! There are a couple of beginner's sailing books that you can purchase on Amazon.com that are published by ASA. They cover the topics taught in their sailing classes. This would be a good start, in learning the foundation of sailing; nothing beats actual learning by sailing and getting wet! Have fun! Mauritz
