Voting does make a difference.
Can't get a better real life example of why casting one's vote can matter!

I currently live in a "swing state" and I will admit it makes me even more interested in voting than with I lived in NY that was a "given" state (but even then I still voted).

I'm sure we we start going anti-govt etc here instead of the importance of voting in general ths thread will be locked real soon.

So, if I understand this correctly, in the case of a catastrophic collapse of the US, of which I assume you are a citizen, we will transcend from a mechanistic, culturally evolved Civilization to one of free living bands of some 300 million souls living in an organic, natural state of bliss? Can you provide a similar example of where this is successful?

Not with 300 million, but tribal communities have lasted WAY longer than any other.

Man is tribal irrespective of locale. But you suggested things would be better for us after our demise. Where do the 300 million go? Key West?

You don't think tribes have a gov't with leaders, laws and rules?

We can always complain, if only about not being allowed to complain. Besides, if my neighbors took a vote on whether to a.) burn my house down; or b.) bulldoze it into the ground, I doubt that I would choose either alternative - but I would sure complain about the outcome. Some say we are often faced with an analog of that situation, but I wouldn't know.

I vote, though. Voting is extremely important, and it doesn't really matter whom you vote for - it's the numbers that count.

Why? Well, you see how politicians behave even when they need the votes. How do you think they'd act if they thought we weren't looking?

Re: USA National Elections

Well, fellow CFers, it's time to get back to our regular enforcement of our rules, meaning no political discussion unless it pertains directly to sailing.

Seeing the impact and importance people around the world placed on today's election, there was a slight suspension of that enforcement. Most behaved pretty good, but then, we have such a responsible group of members here anyways, what else could we have expected?

Now that the results are known, the thread is hereby closed. Thanks for participating.
