Re: Top 5 Regrets of the Dying.

It seems to me that one way to reduce the amount of regret is to do the Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
(Reinhold Niebuhr)

And hope for sufficient amount of serenity to accept postings to CF, since they cannot be changed ;-)

Shorebird, happy your health issue has been resolved. Your ward mate must have been an exertion; maybe he has many regrets...

I posted last on this tread when I was in a lot of pain, I am sorry if I offended anyone. Old men tend to get ornery when in pain, but that is not an excuse.

He who is not busy being born is busy dying.

Have a beer on us, Newt. The taste of beer is first bitter, then sweeter than honey.

Newt:

BTW How is the recovery from your "boom ride" going? Have you been back on board since then?

Re: Top 5 Regrets of the Dying.

I promise not to derail this thread. Been back on board, haven't taken her out of the slip yet. It is raining a lot right now in Astoria. Not 100% with the arm, but back at work, working with it a couple of times a week. LOL right after gym is when it hurt's the worst.
To go back to the thread- I do regret trying to stop that flying gybe with my body. Should of just let the hardware snap....

Re: Top 5 Regrets of the Dying.

Let me do my work each day; and if the darkened hours of despair overcome me, may I not forget the strength that comforted me in the desolation of other times.

May I still remember the bright hours that found me walking over the silent hills of my childhood, or dreaming on the margin of a quiet river, when a light glowed within me, and I promised my early God to have courage amid the tempests of the changing years.

Spare me from bitterness and from the sharp passions of unguarded moments. May I not forget that poverty and riches are of the spirit. Though the world knows me not, may my thoughts and actions be such as shall keep me friendly with myself.

Lift up my eyes from the earth, and let me not forget the uses of the stars. Forbid that I should judge others lest I condemn myself. Let me not follow the clamor of the world, but walk calmly in my path.

Give me a few friends who will love me for what I am; and keep ever burning before my vagrant steps the kindly light of hope.

And though age and infirmity overtake me, and I come not within sight of the castle of my dreams, teach me still to be thankful for life, and for time's olden memories that are good and sweet; and may the evening's twilight find me gentle still.

Re: Top 5 Regrets of the Dying.

There have been two times in my life that I thought I would die. One time when I traveled "low above the road" and hit a tractor mid flight (not my fault), after which my bike hit my back, and one time at night in the Romanian mountains, skidding with my aid transport van on an ice field, almost hitting a large truck, but ended up alive with my front axle and engine somewhere far behind me.
First time I loved to meet my Maker, but asked Him anyway to let me stay here because of my wife and little children. No room in my head for whatever regrets. Second time, when we skidded downhill towards the truck at 50mph, I was with my little family, so dying didn't matter anymore, as long as we wouldn't end up with broken limbs and heavily bleeding in the icy river in the 300 feet deep ravine next to the road. Again no room in my head for regrets, although you think very fast at such a moment :-)
I try to live life to the fullest, and try my best to love the people around me and the people I meet as good as I can. I know I make mistakes. I know I'm less perfect then I should be. And I know I'm still not the man God wants to make out of me. But when I die, I know I've tried, I've loved and that I'm forgiven for the things in which I've failed.
But because I'm only 47 yet, I hope there are still a lot of adventures to come!

Doodles. No bravado, just straight fact.
I'll gladly stand you a pint of Guinness anytime and we can blow the froth of a few .
