i learned from a well edumiketed oldest salt captain for real, not uscg anything. tallships and steamships. kings point and navy and merchant marines. he knew all the chanteys, and sang em when he felt like it...mortified my grandmother, so was funnn!!!

A sea shantie (“shanty” "chantey," or "chanty") is a rhythmic work song, derived from the French command, "Chantez!” (“sing!") that was commonly sung to accompany labour on board large merchant sailing vessels.
