Really Cool Plane -

A local group is restoring an XP-82. We have sold them quite a bit of obsolete metal, helped in fabricating parts, heat treat etc. and they have become decent friends. The level they are going to in this restoration is unbelievable. Wire numbers are correct, correct font etc. any and all graffiti, inspection stamps etc are being carried over, if there was a mis drilled hole in the original part, there is one in the new one.
Tom brought over his B-25 the other day and my Son and I flew in it back to it's home base, I'll try to wrestle up some photos

A64....I would say your Son was really excited but you were really Proud. I'll never forget when I was 6 years old my Dad had a 140, got the bug early and from there the rest is history. I used to say I never "buzzed" anyone/thing, only flew low to checkout to see if I could find a good place to land my old Bi-plane......I hope your friend Tom can keep the B-25 up and flying.....Doolittle would be Proud.

reminds me...Before my days of sail, we had twin-outboard Ski-Boats. We were off Cape Town one calm oily-sea day. An Avro Shackleton buzzed us about 150' direct overhead.

My then Girlfriend, (now wife) went berzerk with excitement, jumping and waving, clearly the pilot saw this, he did a long slow turn and ran at us again. Being a Maritime Recon plane, they were used to flying looooow. He roared direct overhead and I swear I felt the pressure wave in ground-effect, we actually ducked by reflex. The aircraft made ripples in the water, and the sound of four Rolls Royce V12 Merlin engines as he climbed out was incredible, the smell of the Avcat101, aaahh, I would never report him, it was too much fun. This might be the actual plane....

A few weeks after I met my new SO, I had to go fly an air show up north of us. She rode up with one of my buddies in his Beech Staggerwing, her first airplane ride. Her second ride was in the back of my T6, headed back home a couple of nights later. She's since gone on to solo, and has a whole bunch of T6 stick time.

A64 - whatcha think of the 25? Loudest plane I've ever flown. So much fun, but it'll give ya a headache quick if you're up front without the plugs in or the phones on.....

The 25 was loud I expected that with the props being right outside but the thing that struck me was how heavy it was on aileron control, I know these things were war birds, meant to fulfill a wartime misson, no niceties, but how hard could servos have been to fit?

From what I hear you want to fly a B-26. OK for loudest I vote an Albatross with the top hatch open.

They used to buzz all the houses on the coast where I lived. Not cool.

I came across someone like this in my career. This guy told lies to the authority about the height that I passed his property as I flew a coastal route on tourist flights. He claimed I was flying at two hundred feet (never mind the local cliffs were six hundred). At least the official who contacted me saw him as the killjoy he really was and not telling the truth.

From that time on I used the complainants dwelling as a point of interest on an otherwise boring part of the flight. I would point out the house, tell my passengers this guy hated them having a good time, and that we would now fly right past his house at the legal minimum of 500'. I also pointed out the altimeter so that they could be witnesses to our altitude.

I had already changed the subscale when they were not looking. The complainant got to experience a fly by at a real 200' and right past his front door from that time on but I had a load of witnesses that it never happened. Never heard from that a**ehole again.

I think the 152 is good, but a 172 might hold I little better in a breeze.
