Kenichi Horie oldest to sail solo across Pacific at 83

https://apnews.com/article/a4e4a1e3b...3661e24ad501c3

It was the latest achievement for the octogenarian adventurer, who in 1962 became the first person in the world to successfully complete a solo nonstop voyage across the Pacific from Japan to San Francisco.

Sixty years later, he traveled the opposite route.

Re: Kenichi Horie Does it Again

An amazing feat by Kenichi Horie at 83, and let's not ignore the fact it was in a 19 foot yacht.

He gained the record in 1962 becoming the first person in the world to successfully complete a solo nonstop voyage across the Pacific from Japan to San Francisco.

Sixty years later, he travelled the opposite route. Horie has completed other long-distance solo voyages in the past, including sailing around the world in 1974. His latest expedition was the first since his 2008 solo nonstop voyage on a wave-powered boat from Hawaii to the Kii Strait.

And I loved this quote “That shows how healthy I am, I’m still in the middle of my youth.”
