She was already the oldest women to sail around the world before this voyage. She'd sailed around the world as a youngster in her early '70s. She wanted to better the record of oldest person to circumnavigate previously held by a 76 year old Japanese man. She had some bad knock downs in storms requiring jury rigs to be able to continue sailing.

That was the case when she departed on this journey, but whilst she was at sea Tony Curphy eclipsed the previous record by a few years, and now she has eclipsed his.

I think the quest was silly myself, but applaud her incredible determination and patience.

When she was in the Southern Ocean we spoke to her most days on the ham Comedy Net. Despite bad conditions and boat problems, she was always cheerful and upbeat, never seeming to doubt that she would succeed.

Well done, Jeanne!

I was wondering about the NZ stop? How long was it? Is there a clear definition of emergency stop allowed to still be "non stop"

Chestchester never got it back in the day since he stopped one time. Believe he did receive a few bits for his windvane. Doesn't seem much different?

Why not drop the hook under q flag ever few thousand miles. Could do that at 85 or 90.

What a wonderful and determined lady. So many thanks for sharing such news + her blog, navdi!
Also wondering about emergency stops and penalties, how it's decided in case of traumas when recovery period is needed?

I've no idea, but Jeanne will have checked it out prior to doing it, prior to asking for the haven to make the repairs, I feel pretty sure. She's aware of the "i" to dot for all of it, and that they are there. She also was using Satphone for communications, something the GGR people were disallowed.
