GPS Navigation meets the Darwin Awards

The Darwin Awards for 2008 are complete and a new year has begun. A confirmed award from 2008 goes for navigation errors due to a GPS and being lost at sea. The fact that this was accomplished without a boat is perhaps the reason of it's intense astonishment.

2008 Darwin Award: The Balloon Priest

Ladies and gentlemen it is the really dumb stuff that gets you.

Father Adelir de Carli, 41, was trying to draw attention to his campaign to provide rest stops for long-distance truck drivers, and to enter into Guinness World Records. A known adventurer, he had already made a previous similar flight with 500 balloons in January that reportedly took him as high as 5,000 meters (16,400ft). But bad weather this time pushed his makeshift contraption out to sea off Brazil’s southern coas (Paranagua), and in his last contact with police on Sunday night he said that he was encountering problems.

I'm not sure how you can give a Darwin award to a priest...

You know - he took a vow - so how could he reproduce anyway?

I don't it is the vow thats causes (or stops) reproduction; I think it is something else!

Sorry for the thread drift!

oh this is good stuff.

1995 Darwin Award: JATO Rocket Car

Maybe they can use this idea for the latest Americas Cup yacht.
