Driving down Overseas Hwy #1 to Key West next week

I'll be spending a week holiday in Fort Lauderdale, heading for a day or two to Key West, some time from Feb. 27 to Mar.2. Panning on stopping for several hours in Marathon, checking out the marinas. Are there any CF members in this area?

I'm not down there, and this is not directly applicable, but I found a great restaurant (no financial interest here) on a day trip about two weeks ago. It's called Bien, on Eaton Street. Very casual, you eat outside after placing an order inside. Fabulous food. Everyone in our party loved their lunch. Not sure if they open for dinner. It gets crowded, and there aren't many tables, but it's worth the wait.

SFS , is this in Marathon or Key West?

It's good to get a recommendation for a restaurant where you haven't been yet.

Checked out your site... nice boat, you did a lot of work on it.

I'm arriving this Sat. 25th at F.Lauderdale, a day or two later my wife and I will head down towards Key West.

I'll let you know. wolfh

Mardi Gras on the 28th with a party at City Marina that I gotta be there for... other than that, wide open as to time... Make sure you have a place in KW before you leave. Tis "the season" and can be an issue at times. Might consider overnight in Marathon and make the last 1.5 hours next day? Cheaper rooms in general, with good choice of restaurants, etc.

Islamorada nautical flea market this weekend, big bottleneck, add an hour to the trip. Only takes one accident on the Overseas to back stuff up. Lots to see, try to leave enough time to just pull over here and there for a bit...

Be safe and enjoy. It's all downhill after you leave Florida City, but try to time your departure from Lauderdale to hit Miami after 9 or so... Terrible rush hour traffic, even on the turnpike. Stay well away from 95 at all costs

When you get to Key Largo, there is a restaurant called Sundowners, best food you will get between Key Largo and Key West..

Good friend of mine owns it. We used to skydive together in Homestead and every other dropzone in Florida...

Key West, sorry that wasn't clear. I almost never give out restaurant recommendations, because I have high standards. This food was really flavorful, very interesting, and well executed.
