Commercial Diver?

I'm currently a jack of all trades hvac, electrical, welding, and diesel mechanics

I am curious on commercial diving. Does anyone here have a decade or more of experience in the field that could answer some questions for me?

Re: Commercial Diver?

My underwater welding friend said that first and foremost you want to be a good welder, and then a diver after that. It's not a good way for a "diver" to make money, but it's a good way for a welder to increase their income.

Sure I may able to answer your questions, but in all honesty, if I were you I would suggest another profession. Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) are doing the lions share of the underwater work now.

Re: Commercial Diver?

Im with Mr Gallinger. Im in the offshore subsea construction industry and the spent my first 9 years as an air/sat diver in the North Sea and elsewhere. If your making a career decision today in this field, go into ROV's. Today we design most subsea construction tasks as diverless. The industry has been going into deepwater for some years now and its all ROV's. In fact there is still a demand for capable ROV pilots/techs.
