What do Landies do with all this space?

I have had to 'give up the boat' for a while.

Complicated story but basically I am moving to a larger boat and the sale and purchase didn't line up. So I rented an apartment.

So I have this apartment for 6 months. What do I do with all the space? Its 700sq ft. - 65 sq m.

All my cooking stuff fits into 3 cupboards.
The fridge is the size of a sensible bathroom.
My clothes look silly in the closest...

And what is it with furniture that moves? doesn't it slide when a storm comes through?
And where do I fill the diesel?

Careful, don't let your webs dry out.

Re: What do Landies do with all this space?

Bigger question: What does one do?

I moved to an apartment for a few months, once. It had a grand view of the sea. I just stood there staring out to sea wondering why I was ashore. A sad existence it was...

Re: What do Landies do with all this space?

well I have the 3 outboards lined up in the dining area.
Going to give them a good service first.

Well as I live in Seattle and we are in the more rainy season I think I might just get the salt washed off but dry? not a chance.

But seriously I will be hanging out on my friends boat and I have a new candidate .. Should be able to get her shipshape in time for summer then enjoy some long sails.

Its only 6 months - how hard can it be?

On the plus sides
I'm closer to the girl I've been sailing with.
And the building manager at work will no longer bitch about me having a dingy in a car slot... Even though it has a parking permit! Look the job is 150yards from a launch ramp!

Hang your pfd's on the inside of the front door, that might help. While cooking try standing on a skateboard, you'll feel right at home!

What do the people do with the extra space on land? ....heat it ......cool it ..... clean it .....and store things there that they will not see again until they move.

Love the "cooking on a skateboard!" I resemble that remark.

We have accepted the vessel for our liveaboard cruising life following survey and sea trial. Mrogan 416. We'll be on the sea by May 1, and we're renting for 6 months so I empathize with MUB. And I'll try the skateboard thing to get ready!

Re: What do Landies do with all this space?

I think they need the extra space to store the clothing and crystal and china they need to impress the other landies. And the toys to distract them from the boredom.

Personally, I'd rather collect experiences and friends and knowledge and memories, than things. So much easier to store!

LOL! Somewhere in the process you must also dump cold salt water on yourself...

Re: What do Landies do with all this space?

Thanks Wing! We got rid of all the "stuff" and the beauty is that our real friends are ready to come visit! We have a closet at a family member's house for anything we can't fit on the boat. And I mean a CLOSET! We've done 3 tag sales, an estate sale, sold the house, filled 3 dumpsters (24 cubic yards)with unnecessaries, and have no regrets. I don't think we'll even need a dock box where we'll be during the summer months. You talk about liberating!

Buy a bunch of crap you don't need and then in six months you can ponder how in hell you will live without it...

Hang out at a the local happy hour bars. Within a few weeks, you'll meet someone who will be full of great suggestions as to how to fill your apartment, as well as stop that hole from burning through your pockets.
